My bad! Oops I mean my PAD.

Updated: Jan 20, 2022

I used to hate wearing pads. I always thought they were, well; just bad. Truth is there is a myth about tampons being the best for periods and that just isn't true.

Tampons are often used incorrectly. Either they are being used too long in between changes or too high of an absorption rate. All these lead to the deadly Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). So I am here to tell you that pads are better. Speaking from someone who has been on this journey for just shy of 30 years, I know a thing or two. Always having a heavy flow, suffering from endometriosis, fibroids and irregular periods I have went through SO MANY products. Let me tell you the worst and the best for me.

Here are a few of my favorite and not so favorite brands.

Not so favs: Playtex- I found this brand to be full of chemicals and yucky ish! Polysorbate 20 is used across the board in a ton of personal hygiene products. It is known to cause skin irritation, because of the leeching of toxins. I also found them to have terrible leakage protection. Like a lot of us I bleed heavy and at night even with the high absorption and overnight. It was a slippery mess and I don't like that! The material seemed to scrunch and coagulate and make it not full coverage. Not recommended.

Always: I used to be a HUGE fan of always and well it just didn't support me always. It also has been tested for harmful toxins, this is from the scented and unscented line. When I rocked only tampons I used always and always a issues with them being too long, stiff, rough, and not fully absorbing resulting in me using way too many and thus spending more moola. As, you should no tampons are a no no!

Try these instead: INSTEAD softcups- https://softdisc.com/softcup/

These are said to give you up to 12 hours of protection, with a soft flexible ring and large capacity cup this disc is supposed to provide ultimate leak protection. I liked these discs- well everything but the removal! Too messy for my taste, but some women may not mind, since protection can be 12 hours.

Diva cups- https://divacup.com/ Also a great option away from tampons with a unique design. Not my fav, I just couldn't get it to fit right and comfortable. The plastic/silicone was way to firm and rigid. It made the fit terrible for my retroverted uterus. If you are more ergonomically correct this may be the cup for you.

My favs:

My go to is Cora.https://cora.life/products/period-pads Man! I can not say enough about this brand. They give back to the BIPOC community and donate to young girls hygiene. You can read more about that on the link provided. I found this brand to have the best absorption, best protection at night with their overnights, and the stick is amazing like legit its stuck and its stuck! The length of their heavy overnights give me the best protection and I don't feel the icky slip that other chemical pads can leave you with. I adore these pads. They also have a subscription and they deliver straight to you.

L. Brand- https://thisisl.com/ These used to be my favorite, but I think they changed something and they just don't stick well enough for me, especially overnight. Even heavy flow during the day I had accidents and of course "ION like that". They are an award winning organic brand just a bit cheaper than the above Cora brand. They do come with more pads than Cora, so for those focused on cost this may be the best for you.

I like this brand everything about it is great I just don't like the length of the overnights; which I wear during the day on heavy days. So, it may be a good fit for you. It just isn't for me.

I hope this helped change your tampons to pads! Healthy womb means Healthy YOU!

Happy 2022!
